Barnsley Street Project
Barnsley Street Partners
Our Vision
The Barnsley Street Project is a groundbreaking initiative by the Tower Hamlets Mental Health Alliance (THMHA), in partnership with East London Foundation Trust (ELFT) and Look Ahead Housing Association. Together, we are redefining mental health care for the underserved communities of PCN1 (Bethnal Green). Our mission is to provide 24/7, holistic, and culturally sensitive mental health support that empowers individuals, breaks down barriers, and fosters community resilience.
What We Offer
The Barnsley Street Project is built on a hub-and-outreach model, ensuring that mental health care is accessible, inclusive, and tailored to the unique needs of our diverse community.
Key Services Include:
Peer Support Workers: Culturally sensitive support for Bangladeshi, Somali, and other communities, offering 1:1 and group sessions.
Carer’s Coordinator: Support for young adult carers and carers of individuals with severe mental illness (SMI), helping them navigate emotional and practical challenges.
Women’s Coordinator: Holistic support for women, including domestic abuse advice, family support, and wellness programmes.
Employment Coach: Tailored coaching to help individuals access employment, education, and volunteering opportunities.
Community Coproduction: Services co-designed with the community, ensuring they are relevant, inclusive, and impactful.
Our Approach
Person-Centred Care: Treating individuals as assets, not risks, with a focus on dignity, respect, and empowerment.
Cultural Sensitivity: Tailored services that reflect the rich diversity of Tower Hamlets, including LGBTQI+ and Global Majority communities.
Breaking Down Barriers: Reducing stigma through early intervention, outreach, and preventive measures.
Peer Support: Harnessing the power of lived experience to guide and support individuals on their recovery journey.
Community Integration: Embedding mental health services within the fabric of the community, ensuring no one is left behind.
Why It Matters
The Barnsley Street Project is more than just a mental health service—it’s a movement towards equity, inclusion, and community empowerment. By addressing the social determinants of health, fostering peer support, and co-producing services with the community, we are creating a model of care that is responsive, innovative, and sustainable.
