APDA is observing the UK Disability History Month. As this year's UKDHM's theme is on ' Disability and Music', our DDPO is very heartened to reflect on the transformative and flourishing effect music has brought to our users, especially in the achievements of assertiveness, empowerment and in the building of confidence by our Asian disabled women users.
Music and dancing have enabled our disabled women access to social development environments not only in the wider communities but also within their own community where lack of inclusion was experienced by many of them.
Their participations at mainstream events like the London Liberty festival, the London Olympics and Paralympics ceremonies, the London 'Mela' and many such events have made tremendous impact on their health and wellbeing and for their families as a whole.
